History

Beginnings and Queens of the Stone Age (1996-1999)

After Kyuss broke up in 1995 after internal disputes, Josh Homme played as a backup musician with some friends bands ( Screaming Trees, Earthlings? , And Soundgarden ), but soon realized that he could be happy again with a new own band. Therefore he founded in 1996 with the Screaming Trees member Van Conner and drummer Victor session Indrizzo the band Gamma Ray. But since there was already a band with the same name in Germany, they named themselves to Queens of the Stone Age. This name came from Chris Goss ( Masters of Reality, friend and producer of the band), who said "god, you sound like the queens of the stone age". This pleased the band members so much that they stayed with that name. The first songs they played together were still remnants of the last Kyuss recordings. When trying to musically distinguished from Kyuss, they put on tough rock, intricate guitar riffs and minimal drumming. Josh Homme described it later because of the simple drums as " Robot Rock", Nick Oliveri, due to the sometimes psychedelic riffs as " cocaine - Pop ".

Published in 1998 the self-titled, limited to 3000 copies of their debut album, grossed Homme on the guitar and bass alone because Oliveri was busy with his side project Mondo Generator. The album was enthusiastically received by press and fans, what the Queens of the Stone Age allowed for a two -year tour around the world.

Rated R and Songs for the Deaf (2000-2004)

In 2000 the second album Rated R was released with the highly successful single Feel Good Hit of the Summer (in cooperation with Rob Halford of Judas Priest ), the text of which consists solely of a list of drugs.

Back in 2001, the band began reinforced by Mark Lanegan at the microphone, recording their next album Songs for the Deaf, which was published in 2002, now with Dave Grohl ( Foo Fighters and formerly Nirvana) on drums. The third album and the first single No One Knows, were enthusiastically accepted by both the fans and the music press worldwide.

On 11 and 12 February 2004, announced that Nick Oliveri has disconnected " after several incidents in the past 18 months, after which no more cooperation between the two main members was possible " ( management of the band ) from the Queens of the Stone Age. Some time later gave Homme in an interview announced that he had thrown Oliveri from the band because rumors had surfaced that the bassist towards his ( Olivieris ) woman would have been a regular physical.

Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris (2005-2010)

In March 2005, Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri reconciled, but still went their separate ways. Mark Lanegan, too, had left the band temporarily to increasingly have to worry again about his solo career, but was also on the album Lullabies to Paralyze, which hit stores in March 2005, nor to hear in some titles. Also on the album Era Vulgaris, published on 8 June 2007, continued the band continues the tradition of many guest appearances and worked with Mark Lanegan, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and Julian Casablancas of The Strokes together.

The already -released in 2000 album Rated R was re-released on 6 August 2010 as a double CD. The re-release contains the regular album, a second CD, on which B-sides and live recordings are.
