Queensbridge, Queens

Queensbridge (short: QB ) is a council estate in Queens, New York City. The settlement regarded as a social focal point and has one of the highest crime rates in the city.

It is one of the largest public housing projects in North America and is administered by the New York City Housing Authority ( NYCHA ).

Location

QB is located on Long Iceland in Queens, New York between Vernon Boulevard and 21st Street. The name Queensbridge comes from the Queensboro Bridge ( 59th Street ), which is located south of QB. QB is divided into two complexes, the North Houses ( 40th Avenue ) and the South Houses ( 41st Avenue ). There are eight blocks and 96 buildings which belong to Queensbridge. A subway station on the southern edge was named after the district.

Music

From Queensbridge has produced some successful hip- hop artist. Mid-1980s were fought between QB and the Bronx, to be where both sides claimed as the birthplace of hip- hop movement rap battle. KRS -One was of the Bronx MC Shan and disste and quite Queensbridge with The Bridge Is Over.
