Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service ( QPWS ) is a subdivision of the Department of Environment and Resource Management of the Government of Queensland in Australia. The QPWS managed national parks, marine reserves, fish sanctuaries, nature reserves and " Conservation parks," including 80,000 km ² land, 72,000 km ² marine protected areas and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park with 345,000 km ².

The QPWS was founded in December 1998 in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and Marine Parks Act 2004. The headquarters is located in Brisbane.

The organization is primarily responsible for the protection of wildlife and the preservation of Biodiversivität the protected areas. For each National Park there is a corresponding management plan.

To cope with the tasks, this organization employs about 700 park rangers who are responsible for compliance with the regulation of protected areas, camping facilities and hiking trails, nature conservation and wildlife protection. 400 other people that deal with technical, scientific and operational matters are employed by QWPs.

The QPWS managed protected areas in ten regions, on land South East Queensland, Western Queensland, Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay - Burnett, Capricornia, Wet Tropics and off the coast of Cape York / Savannah, Moreton Bay, Great Sandy, Northern Queensland and Central Queensland.
