Quriwayrachina, La Convención

Corihuayrachina is a ruined place in Peru near Choquequirao in the Vilcabamba area on the mountain plateau of Cerro Victoria.

The British photographer and researcher Peter Frost and the American Scott Gorsuch discovered in 1999 during a hike traces of the place. In June 2001, Frost led a group of archaeologists in the area where the promotion to which is situated on 3,900 m city. They discovered over an area of 6 km ² agricultural terrace fields, granaries, cemeteries, grave towers, more than 100 circular buildings, the stump of a pyramid and an 8 -km-long channel, which was used for irrigation. The religious or administrative center may have been an open place, under which a tomb is located.

When the researchers arrived in Corihuayrachina, the city had already been looted. In the tombs Although there were skeletons, but no grave goods. Found pottery and stone tools attest to two different time periods. Probably the city had been founded in 1200 and left again, later to be resettled. The magnificent views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains was probably used for religious worship of the sun and to the development of a calendar.
