R. Catesby Taliaferro

Robert Catesby Taliaferro (* 1907, † 1989) was an American historian of science, classical scholar and philosopher.

He used the name Robert R. Catesby Taliaferro and not or RC Taliaferro is quoted.

He translated from Greek and Latin into English: the Conics of Apollonius of Perga, the Almagest of Claudius Ptolemy, works of Plato ( Timaeus, Critias ) and Augustine ( About Music ).

He was in 1936 a PhD from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville (The Aristotelean theory of movement, with a translation from the Greek of the treatises on place and On the varuum of John Philoponus of Alexandria ), a teacher at St. John's College, was Annapolis and in 1948 Master of the Priory School in Portsmouth Portsmouth (Rhode Iceland ). In 1956 he became associate professor at the University of Notre Dame, having been there Visiting Associate Professor.
