The Rýchlostná cesta R2 is still in large part in planning highway in the north west and the south of Slovakia. It is on their route to replace the state road I/50. Larger towns on the highway are: Trenčín, Prievidza, Zvolen, Rimavská Sobota and Košice. 20 km actual expressway currently are built: a 6 km long bypass around Ožďany and a 14 -km bypass around Figa and Tornaľa, both in the semi- expansion. Next run about 25 km as a common route with the R1 between Žiar nad Hronom and Zvolen and almost 9 km between Nováky and Prievidza ( this route is not yet part of the R2, but the state road I/50 ).

The route Ruskovce - Pravotice ( 10.76 km, 9.56 km length, half or removal), since January 2014 officially in construction; it is to be completed in May 2016 and relieve the city Bánovce nad Bebravou. The bypass Žiar nad Hronom ( 5.76 km, half or removal), since October 2012 in construction, with the planned opening to traffic in October 2014., For Section Pstruša - Kriváň (Ring Road Detva, 10.38 km ) was established in November 2013, the construction contract signed, with the construction period to November 2015. by the end of 2014, the routes Zvolen -východ - Pstruša ( 7.85 km ) and Mýtna - Lovinobana (10,5 km, for the time being in the semi- expansion ) be under construction.
