Rääkkylä

Rääkkylä [ Rae ː k ː Ylä ] (Swedish historically Bräkylä ) is a municipality in eastern Finland with 2490 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located in the countryside of North Karelia on the border with Savo.

Rääkkylä situated on a peninsula between the lakes Orivesi and Pyhäselkä that belong to the Saimaa Lake District, approximately 30 km south of Joensuu. The municipality includes in addition to the Kirchdorf Rääkkylä of the villages Haapasalmi, Jaama, Nieminen, Oravisalo, Rasisalo, Rasivaara, Sintsi, Salokylä - Pötsönlahti and Varpasalo.

The 1851 finished wooden church of Rääkkylä supposed to be the second largest in the world. The town is a center of Finnish folk music: Every year in July, the festival " Kihaus " instead. The world music band Värttinä was founded in Rääkkylä.
