Rabo de Ovelha

The white grape Rabo de Ovelha is an indigenous species in Portugal. The name ( Portuguese: lamb's tail ) is derived from the shape of the grapes. The variety is recommended in the regions of Douro, Trás -os- Montes, Beira Interior Sul, Beira Interior Norte Beira Litoral, Ribatejo and Oeste of cultivation. Admitted she is also in the Algarve. The area under vines is approximately 3,115 hectares. Rabo de Ovelha is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic drawback is avoided, no return delivered to male plants need to grow.

Although the late -ripening variety is found throughout Portugal, expresses the Ampelograph Pierre Galet doubt whether the equality of the variety across the country and proposes a comparative study in order to further specification of the vines from the individual regions.

A relationship with the white variety Rabigato is not met, despite the homonymous Synonyms ( Rabo de Ovelha ).
