Radamés Gnattali

Radamés Gnattali ( born January 27, 1906 in Porto Alegre, † February 3, 1988 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian musician and composer.

Life

At the age of six, he began piano and violin to learn later. He was interested in Modinhas and popular songs. At 15, he ruled further instruments cavaquinho and guitar. He attended the Instituto de Belas Artes in his hometown and became a student of Guilherme Fontainha.

He then began to play as a musician in theaters and dance bands and managed to combine art with the folk music. Later, he and Pixinguinha were primarily responsible for the orchestration of a significant part of the music production in Brazil.

His first compositions that have been recorded on LP in 1932, were the Choros Espritado and Urbano, which appeared under the pseudonym of Vero, which he had assumed for the publication of his popular compositions.

He was responsible for the introduction of instruments saxophone and flute in the carnival music of Brazil, composed film scores, gave concerts in Europe and had a significant influence within the new generation of choro musicians.

In the 1970s, he went back to the traditional choro - formation, for which he composed the Suite Retratos. He was the founder of the significant group Camerata Carioca and recorded numerous records, as with Elizeth Cardoso, guitarist Raphael Rabello and many others.
