Radek Štěpánek

Radek Stepanek ( born November 27, 1978 in Karviná, then Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech tennis player.

Career

Stepanek began at the age of three years with the tennis. He turned professional in 1996. 2003, the Czech was to find the first time in the top 50 in the world and feels comfortable on hard courts, where he was able to celebrate all of his previous five individual victories. 2004 Stepanek reached the final of the Masters tournament in Paris. In 2005 he was the first time the Czech No. 1, 2006 in Rotterdam Stepanek won his first ATP tournament in singles. He also reached the final of the Masters tournament in Hamburg, the third round of the French Open and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. On 10 July 2006, the Czech was the No. 8 in the world, his highest ever placing. 2007 won Štěpánek the ATP tournament in Los Angeles. In the final he defeated the American James Blake 7-6, 5:7 and 6:2. At the Masters tournament in Montreal, the Czech reached the semifinals, but it lost to the world number one Roger Federer with 6:7 and 2:6. 2009 won Stepanek ATP Tournament Brisbane, which was held this year for the first time, with 3:6, 6:3, 6:4 against Fernando Verdasco and the SAP Open 2009 in San Jose. In 2011 he was the ATP tournament in Washington DC decide for themselves.

Stepanek is also a successful doubles player. His greatest successes were in the double winning the Australian Open in 2012 and the U.S. Open in 2013 with Leander Paes. Overall, he won 16 doubles titles in his career so far, his best ranking position was fourth on 12 November, 2012.

Davis Cup

Since 2003, Stepanek plays for the Czech Davis Cup team. In the 2009 season he achieved with this the final, where they were subject, however, clear in Barcelona Spain with 0:5. 2012, the team qualified for the second time for the final, which this time was held in Prague. Again the enemy was Spain, which this time was defeated 3-2. Stepanek entered each season encounter against Italy, Serbia and Argentina. In the final, he and Tomáš Berdych won the double match against the reigning World Champion Marc Lopez Marcel Granollers and after Stepanek had lost his first singles match against David Ferrer smooth. As Berdych won his opening match against Nicolás Almagro and lost his second singles match against Ferrer, the fifth single between Stepanek and Almagro decided. This game won Stepanek 3-1, which the Czech Republic since 1980 (then known as Czechoslovakia ) won the Davis Cup for the first time. In the following season, the Czech team successfully defended the title. In the final they defeated Serbia 3-2, Stepanek won the decisive singles match against Dusan Lajovic 6:3, 6:1 and 6:1.

Private

Stepanek was romantically involved with professional tennis player Martina Hingis. He is married to the former tennis player Nicole Vaidišová since July 2010.
