Radio Slovakia International

Radio Slovakia International ( Radio Slovakia International - RSI ) is the foreign service of the state Slovak Radio ( Slovenský rozhlas - SRo ). The program is produced in the capital Bratislava on the transmitter's headquarters. Founded directly on 1 January 1993 after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, Radio Slovakia International was one of the well-known foreign transmitters in the short-wave broadcasting. On December 31, 2010, broadcast on short wave was set, via the Internet and satellite transmission continues.

History

The station was founded immediately after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia into two independent states Czech Republic and Slovakia on 1 January 1993 in the new Slovak capital Bratislava. As Radio Slovakia International, he went just three days later, on 4 January 1993 with an initial hourly basis relay broadcasts of the domestic program for Slovaks living abroad on the air.

While the former Czechoslovak foreign service after separation into two states quite regularly as now the Czech foreign service under the old - and new - continue working name of Radio Prague and partly continued to use transmission facilities in Slovakia, it took a bit to the Slovak equivalent of having his own abroad program the commenced operations on short wave.

The actual transmission mode of the Slovak foreign service designed exclusively for the foreign-language listeners around the world program began, however, three months after the founding of the state of Slovakia on 29 March 1993. Those days was sent nor in English, German, French and in Russian except in Slovak. In 2003, programs were added in Spanish.

On 1 July 2006, the short-wave transmission mode was first set for budgetary reasons until further notice, so that RSI was to receive only via satellite and Internet. After strong protests from listeners from all over the world as well as some political complications to securing the financing of further transmission operation RSI was to receive again on shortwave from 29 October 2006.

Relatively early after transmission start the broadcasting of this program was provided by satellite and introduced around the mid- 1990s. For the shortwave the introduction of digital transmission format DRM was planned for 2011 /2012.

In 2010, however, was ultimately decided surprising for saving reasons, the setting of broadcasting on shortwave. From 1 January 2011, the broadcasts of Radio Slovakia International will only be broadcast via satellite and delivered over the Internet.

Program

RSI is currently producing each half -hour programs, which consist primarily of news and features as well as information and interviews of various kinds in which are reported on Slovakia. There is also a listener mailing and cultural clauses. There is also also regularly played music from Slovakia.

Among the various language services, the German editors is since the start of transmission in German language on March 29, 1993, just over 40 % of total handset letters still clearly in the lead.

On 31 December 2010 Radio Slovakia International has set the broadcasts on shortwave and is therefore only on the Internet, via satellite and in Slovakia received via DVB -T. Broadcasts of the English and Spanish service will continue to be sent for North America via World Radio Miami International on shortwave.
