Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier

Rafael Ángel Calderón Fournier (born 14 March 1949 in Diriamba, Nicaragua ) is a Costa Rican politician ( PUSC ). From May 8, 1990 to 8 May 1994, he was President of Costa Rica. This office had been his father, Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia, dressed 1940-1944.

His godfather was Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle.

Until Calderón Fournier 1976, the Partido Republicano Calderonista founded he was a member of the Partido Nacional Unification. In 1983, he founded the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana.

Calderón was taken in October 2004 on remand because he suspected of corruption wurde.2005 he was released from custody.

In 2009 he was again the candidate of the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana for the presidential elections of 2010. Though He withdrew his candidacy after he was wurde.Er convicted of corruption charges in October 2009 by a court in Costa Rica's capital San José to 5 years imprisonment along with to have received seven other co-defendants found guilty, for the purchase of medical products in Finland at the expense of the state social insurance company a total of 8 million bribes. The Court of Appeal reduced the sentence imposed in May 2011 for three years and said a probation period of five years.
