Rafael García Torres

José Rafael García Torres ( born August 14, 1974 in Mexico City) is a former Mexican football player.

As of 1992, Rafael García played in the Primera División de México, since he made his debut for the capital club UNAM Pumas in November of that year. He has been increasingly used in the following years and in the third year, he belonged to the tribe formation. Until 1998, the midfielder stayed with the Cougars, then the exchange came to a top club Deportivo Toluca. There, too, he was immediately set and in his first years, he won three consecutive times, the Mexican championship respectively in the summer months and was in the finals of the 1998 CONCACAF Champions Cup. 2003 was Toluca then right up under the North American clubs and won the Cup, after they had qualified by winning the Apertura 2002 for the competition.

By 2004, García remained at Toluca, then he went back to his hometown to Cruz Azul. After a season he plays since 2005 in Guadalajara at CD Atlas. In 2008, he finished his career with CD Veracruz. In 16 years in the first division of the attack-minded midfielder scored 48 goals in over 400 games.

As of 1996, Rafael García was also for the Mexican national football team in action and played for them until 2006 a total of 52 games. Previously, he had been already represented in the U17 and the U20 selection of his country at the World Junior Championship in 1991 and 1993 respectively. In 1999, he stood at winning the Confederations Cup in the national team and also in the World Cup 2002, he came, if only briefly, are used. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he stood five times on the course and the tournament was his second World Cup squad in Mexico, but did not play.

García is son of coach Ricardo La Volpe.
