Rahva Hääl

Rahva Hääl ( to German People's Voice ) was during the Soviet occupation of Estonia ( 1940/41 and 1944 to 1991 ) the most important Communist daily newspaper in the country. She was the official Estonian party newspaper of the Communist Party of Estonia (ERP ) and the statement body of the Government of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.

History

On 16-17. June 1940, the Red Army occupied the Republic of Estonia. The direct connection of the Estonian press was immediately followed it. The new Communist rulers replaced on 22 June 1940, the newspaper Uus Eesti ( "New Estonia " ) by Rahva Hääl. A few weeks later, the state was renamed after sham elections in Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the Soviet Union. In the time of the German occupation of Estonia, the Estonian newspaper published in the Soviet Union.

Rahva Hääl was the press organ of the EKP, propaganda sheet and Leitzeitung for political life in the Estonian SSR during the entire period of the Estonian SSR. In 1990, the journal has a circulation of 197,100 daily copies, which decreased until the setting to 24 304.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the restoration of Estonian independence Rahva Hääl was privatized. The newspaper was published until 1995. Through the union of the leaves Rahva Hääl, Hommikuleht and Päevaleht was on 5 June 1995 Eesti Päevaleht after Postimees is the second largest political daily newspaper in Estonia today.
