Rainer Seifert

Rainer Seifert ( born December 10, 1947 in Wiesbaden ) is a former German hockey player and Olympic champion.

Rainer Seifert played since school days when Rüsselsheimer RK. The technically strong inside forward in 1968, 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1978 German champion in field hockey, 1973, 1976 and 1979 he won the title in indoor hockey. He was in all Rüsselsheimer championship successes there.

In 1969, he debuted in the German national hockey team. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Seifert was involved in two games after the final victory of his team-mates he was awarded Olympic gold. Also in the following years only 1.70 meters wide Seifert was at many international events here. He was part of the squad that won bronze at the 1973 World Cup, it was followed by the European Indoor Championship title in 1974. During the World Cup 1975, the German team again won bronze. 1976 won the team again at the European Indoor Championships. Rather disappointing ran the 1976 Olympics, the German team finished only fifth place. After a fourth place at the 1978 World Cup the team won in the same year at the European Championships in Hannover the title. After winning the third European Indoor Championship title in 1980 the Olympic boycott in 1980 was a major setback in the track record of the German Hockey Federation. After 122 internationals Rainer Seifert adopted in November 1980 from the German national team.
