Rainer Stadelmann

Rainer Stadelmann ( born October 24, 1933 Oettingen / Bayern ) is a German Egyptologist.

After his graduation in Neuburg on the Danube in 1953 Stadelmann studied Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Archaeology at the University of Munich. In the years 1955 and 1956 he took part in the four months excavations at the sun temple of Userkaf in Abusir. In the summer of 1957, he continued his studies at Heidelberg University and his doctorate in 1960 in Egyptology and Syrian Palestinian deities in Egypt. Until 1967 he was a research assistant in Heidelberg, then (1968 ) he completed his habilitation there. From 1968 Rainer Stadelmann Scientific Director at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo was ( DAIK ) from 1989 to 1998, he was its first director. At the University of Heidelberg, he is an honorary professor since 1975.

Rainer Stadelmann has participated in numerous excavations, as in Elephantine, Thebes and Dahshur. He is a corresponding member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres.
