Rainer Wend

Rainer Wend ( born March 8, 1954 in Gütersloh ) is a German politician (SPD) and chief lobbyist of the Deutsche Post AG. He was from 2002 to 2005 Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Economy and Labour and 2005-2009 economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. Since July 2012, he is President of the European Movement Germany.

Life and career

After graduation in 1973 Wend completed in 1974 to study law, which he finished in 1979 with the first legal state exam. After completing the legal clerkship he laid in 1984, the second state examination. In 1984 his doctorate in law. at the University of Bielefeld with the work, the admissibility of collective agreement workplace occupation rules on the example of recent collective agreements in the printing industry. Since 1984 he has been admitted to the bar. He was also curator of the Initiative New Social Market Economy.

Rainer Wend is married and has three daughters.

Party

Since 1970 he is member of the SPD. During his studies he was active in the Socialist Hochschulbund. As chairman of the Young Socialists district of East Westphalia / Lippe Wendland was considered an important representative of the Socialists who took wing of the SPD youth organization. From 1989 to 1997 he was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Bielefeld.

Member of Parliament

From 1998 to 1 April 2009, he was a member of the German Bundestag. Here he was from February to October 2002 he became spokesman of the SPD parliamentary fraction of Economics and Technology. Since March 2002 he was a member of the SPD Parliamentary Group Executive Board and was from November 2002 to October 2005 Chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Labour. In November 2005 he was again elected to the economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. He belonged to the Seeheim Circle and the Berlin network. In August 2008 Wend announced not to stand for parliamentary elections in 2009 for the office of deputies. A few months later, the German Post AG announced that Wend will accept the Corporate Public Policy and Sustainability in the company. He will be responsible for matters of policy co-ordination, for the environmental strategy and sustainability as well as for the global social engagement. Wend, who took up his new position on 1 April 2009, was the successor of Monika Wulf- Mathies.

Rainer Wend always drew as a directly elected representative of the constituency of Bielefeld in the Bundestag. In the 2005 federal election he reached here 47.2 percent of the primary vote. On 1 April 2009 he left by waiver from the Bundestag.

European policy

Political priorities set Wend since his time in the Bundestag on economic and financial issues and notes the so-called euro crisis again and again position. Important elements of crisis management are for him next budget discipline and structural reforms in the countries concerned, a greater convergence of economic and financial policies of the EU members to a " political union ". Wend supports the introduction of a financial transaction tax on the broadest possible basis. During the debates on the Multiannual Financial Framework of the EU Wend called together with his British counterpart on a growth-oriented budget framework. Applicable also represents the idea of a social Europe, as a political union could succeed in his view, only if the living conditions in Europe are comparable. Since July 2012 Rainer Wend President of the European Movement Germany eV and thus followed the SPD politician Dieter Spöri.

Public offices

From 1994 to 2003 he was mayor in Bielefeld.
