Raj Bagri, Baron Bagri

Raj Kumar Bagri, Baron Bagri, CBE ( born August 24, 1930 in Calcutta ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ) and entrepreneurs.

Career

Bagri comes from an Indian middle-class family. His father died when Bagri was three years old. He left school at age 15 and began training at Metal Distrubutors, a resident of Calcutta metal trading company. He worked there as a warehouse worker and in the archive. At the age of 19 years he became a clerk in the sales department. In the 1950s, Bagri traveled on behalf of Metal Distrubutors several times to London to establish business contacts with British firms. Opened in 1959, Bagri an office of Metal Distributors in London. In the following years his company acted primarily as a link between companies in Britain and melting factories in India.

Bagri founded in 1970 Metdist Group and was its Chairman ( Chairman ). Bagri from 1993 to 2002 Chairman ( Chairman ) of the London Metal Exchange ( The London Metal Exchange Ltd ). Previously, he had been there from 1983 to 2002 Director (Director) and from 1990 to 1993, Vice Chairman ( Vice - Chair ). From 2003 to 2006 he was there Honorary President ( Honorary President).

In 1995 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He is a member of the Advisory Council ( Advisory Committee ) of The Prince's Trust and was from 1997 to 2007 the Board ( Governing Body ) of the School of Oriental and African Studies ( SOAS ) at the University of London. In addition, he is Chairman of the Bagri Foundation. Bagri is also a member of the Courts of the City University, Chairman of the Trustees of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in the UK and member of the Trusteeship Council of the non-profit organization Sangam Association of Asian Women.

He was awarded an honorary doctorate as a Doctor of Sciences of the City University and in 2000 from the University of Nottingham in 1999. In 2004 he Honorable Fellow of the London Business School.

Bagri is married to Usha Maheshwary since 1954 and has a son and a daughter.

Membership in the House of Lords

In the New Year's Honours List of 1997 his collection was announced to the peerage. In the same year he was in the City of Westminster, appointed Life peer as Baron Bagri of Regent's Park. His maiden speech in the House of Lords he held on 23 November 1999. Finally he enlisted on 21 March 2000 to word.

He voted repeatedly against his party. Most recently, he was present on 25 January 2010 by a vote. He finished on 6 July 2010 his membership in the House of Lords, in order to evade the taxation of its assets within the UK.
