Raketa (hydrofoil)

The Raketa was the type of a fully submerged hydrofoil.

History

In the forties, was developed by the Russian naval architect and designer Rostislav Alexeyev Jewgenjewitsch among others tanks and hydrofoil gunboats and constructed. By the end of the war his hydrofoils were not produced until after the Soviet fleet was such vessels. Under his leadership, the hydrofoil were designed and built by Raketa type. In August 1957, the maiden voyage of this developed for the transportation of passengers the boat from Gorky to Kazan followed.

The Raketa is considered to be the first built in large series Hydrofoil for public passenger transport and was used mainly on Russian rivers. From this first series were from the Soviet shipyard Krasnoje Sormovo, Gorky from 1957 built and delivered around 100 boats. Many of them have been exported to Eastern Europe, Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany. Some boats were over 20 years of service as well as the Rheinpfeil ( later series from 1970), which was in operation from 1972 around 25 years. More than 400 boats were built of type Raketa in several series. The type Wos'chod replaced the type Raketa and was later on the type Lastotschka (ship type) replaced ( swallow).

This boat with fully immersed step-like wings had a length of 27 meters and was built in 1956 only in the Soviet Union, it provided space depending on the equipment for 60 to 65 people. With a displacement of 27 tons and a capacity of 7 t was with the driving power of 650 kW at a speed of 32 kn, ie around 58 km / h. The width was 5 m and the draft floating 1.8 m from the ride on the wings of around 1.1 m.
