Rakowo, Choszczno County

Rakovo ( German Raakow ) is a village in the rural community Krzęcin ( Kranzin ) in the powiat Choszczeński ( Arnswalder circle) in Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Geographical location

The village is situated in the Neumark, about four kilometers northeast of the village Krzęcin ( Kranzin ), 12 kilometers southeast of Choszczno ( Arnswalde ) and 72 kilometers south-east of Stettin ( Szczecin).

His German place name ( Raakow ) should not be confused with the similar names who also Neumark in the past, but to the city Drebkau belonging village Raakow ( Lower Rakow ) with lock Raakow in the district of Spree- Neisse.

History

Raakow should be the same as mentioned in a document from 1336 Ratikow place. It was originally a manor and had one of the lands of the Wedel family. 1354, as a part of the village came to the monastery Marienwalde, it was called Rackow. The manor had found a long time in the possession of the Goltz family. In 1789 it was bought by Berend Ludwig von Delitz. 1823 was the village of two parts, the to the Official Marienwalde associated fraction and the manor belonging to the share. The church was a branch of Kürtow.

Before the end of World War II Raakow belonged to the district of Arnswalde, which had been reclassified in 1938 by the Province of Brandenburg in the Province of Pomerania. The region was placed under Polish administration in 1945.
