Ramat Hovav

Ramat Chovav (Hebrew רמת חובב ) (also " Ramat Hovav ") is an industrial area about 13 km south of Beersheba in Israel. The industrial area is one of the most important in Israel and mostly hosts heavy chemical industry. It was founded in the 1970s.

The industrial area is politically independent and not belong to any regional authority to ( " Industrial Council "), a special case which only applies to the Tefen Industrial Zone in northern Israel. This fact is often criticized because thereby the companies are the only "citizens" of political unity.

Many environmental problems are caused by the industrial area, which are dealt with gradually in recent years. The environmental problems have often caused protests from environmental groups and citizens present and this environmental conflict is regarded as one of the sharpest in Israel.

Ramat Chovav is connected to an industrial web with the power of the Israel Railways.
