Ramisco

Ramisco is an indigenous red grape variety in Portugal and is almost exclusively in the area of ​​Colares in Sintra north of Lisbon on the Atlantic - grown coast. A special feature of the area is that the vineyards are spared by the present there 2 to 3 meters deep sandy soil of phylloxera and therefore the variety is still grown ungrafted today. The late-ripening variety has plum blue, small berries with thick skins. The variety produces fragrant, dark colored and strong tannic red wines with moderate alcohol content, which should be a few years before drinking, but for decades and storable.
