Ramon Margalef
Ramón Margalef i López ( born May 16, 1919 in Barcelona, † May 23, 2004 ) was a Catalan ecologist, environmental scientist and Limnologist. He taught ecology at the University of Barcelona.
Life
Margalef worked at the Institute of Applied Biology (1946-1951) and the Institute for Fisheries Research, which he headed from 1966 to 1967. He created the Department of Ecology, University of Barcelona, where he guided them a large number of ecologists, oceanographers and Limnology. In 1967 he was Spain's first professor of ecology.
Awards
He received several prizes and awards, including the Premio Ramón y Cajal and the Premio Nacional de Medio Ambiente. According to him, the entered service in summer 2011 Scientific research vessel Ramon Margalef is designated, according to a submarine volcanic eruption at El Hierro undertook studies the following fall. Named after him is the Premi Ramon Margalef, awarded annually for Ecology of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
