Ranchu

The Ranchu (Japanese katakana :ランチュウ; Kanji:兰 鋳,兰 虫or卵 虫) ( German name: " buffalo head") is a cultivated form of the goldfish (Carassius auratus gibelio format, Bloch 1782 ). It is characterized by an " egg-shaped " body shape and lack of dorsal fin.

This cultivar is often unproven considered spoiled breed.

History

The Goldfish breeding forms in China, with its hundreds of variations are used from mutations of Carassius gibelio format auratus ( Bloch, 1782 ) for centuries. Breeding origin were the red-gold mutations of silver gable.

Breeding

According to British standard, the body shape is round, with a more curved back and shorter and strongly abducted split tail fin. The caudal peduncle is 90 ° inclined, the tail should be carried low accordingly. The hood of the Ranchu is not as pronounced as in the Lionhead, but is definitely on the side of the head far down -reaching. The pelvic fins are half as long as the body height; the other fins shorter. A distinction is made between sideview and topview ranchu, the optimal view therefore results from the top or from the side. The cultivated form itself is not difficult to breed than any other gold fish shape also. The number of viable offspring depends on the selection of the parent animals from an established breeding line and the experience / the eye of the experienced breeder. As with all ornamental fish - breeding forms a selection of the most beautiful animals is required. Usually Ranchu come from warm Asian countries. Apart from imports from cool regions, they are not really suitable for ponds in Germany, recommended for aquaristic attitude very much.
