Ranged weapon

Ranged ( ranged weapons ) are weapons that are brought without direct physical contact of the opponent ( in the distance) on the effect. The active body is usually referred to as a basement.

A technical classification is based on the drive of the weapons:

• Directly with muscle power moving weapons: Thrown weapons and catapults
• With mechanically generated spring force, torsion or leverage: catapults and bow weapons
• Acting by pyrotechnic means weapons: firearms or missiles
• Similar to the firearms act hydrodynamically eg compressed air weapons or weapons whose projectiles are accelerated by electromagnetic pulses (eg railgun or gauss cannon)
