Rank Sang ( indonesian Pulau Rank Sang ) is located in the Strait of Malacca, an Indonesian island off the east coast of Sumatra.

Geography

With an area of almost 908 km ², it is the fifth largest of a series of lying off the east coast of Sumatra island, each width by a few kilometers estuaries are separated. North of rank Sang the Straits of Malacca and is situated south of the island Rank Sang Rantau, from which it is separated by the Strait Airhitam. Also in the south, east of Rantau, lie the small islands Tupang and Serapung, further east the larger Mendol. East of rank Sang are the islands of Karimun Besar, Karimun and Kundur.

Rank Sang is about 60 km long, up to 18 km wide and consistently flat.

Management

Administratively the island Rank Sang belongs to the administrative district ( kabupaten ) Kepulauan Meranti Riau province and consists of the two sub-districts ( Kecamatan ) rank and rank Sang Sang Barat together 57 876 inhabitants (as of 2007). The two main towns are Tanjung Samak and the southeast coast and Banto in the west of the island
