The Illyrian Buttercup ( Ranunculus illyricus ) is a species of the genus Ranunculus (Ranunculus ).

Features

The Illyrian buttercup is a perennial, herbaceous plant that usually reaches stature heights of 30 to 50 centimeters. The plant produces suckers and root tubers. The stems and leaves are densely hairy white. The basal leaves have three to five sections of the first order. The sections are linear - lanceolate and cut in pieces. Often, this plant does not bloom and developed only undivided basal leaves. The anthers are yellow.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

Occurrence

The species occurs in Europe in Central Europe, Italy and the temperate to hot temperate southeastern Europe. Northward reaches its territory to southern Sweden. It grows richer and often influenced ruderal continental sand and dry grass and dry meadows.

Use

The Illyrian Buttercup is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rockeries and heather beds.
