Ranunculus uncinatus is a flowering plant in the genus Ranunculus from the family of the buttercup family ( Ranunculaceae ).

Description

The stems are erect and glabrous or bristly. Never roots at the nodes. The stem base is not onion-like. The roots are never bulbous. The leaf blades of the basal leaves are 1.8 to 5.6 × 2.8 to 8.3 inches tall, in outline, heart-shaped to kidney-shaped, three-part, sometimes dreifiedrig. The leaflets can be lobed again. The last sections, ie the leaves or leaflets are elliptic to lanceolate. The leaf margin is serrated or crenate - dentate. The blade end is pointed or rounded obtuse.

The Rezeptakel is hairless. The sepals are 2 to 3.5 × 1 to 2 millimeters in size, recurved or sometimes spread and hairy fluffy. The 5 petals are 2-4 (rarely to 6) × 1-2 (rarely to 3 ) mm tall and yellow. The head of the achenes is 4-7 x 4-7 mm in size and spherical or hemispherical. The achenes are 2 to 2.8 × 1.6 to 2 millimeters in size, glabrous or scattered bristly. The edge of the achenes forms a narrow, 0.1 to 0.2 millimeters wide rib. The beak is 1.2 to 2.5 mm long, lanceolate, curved, hook-like manner and subject to change.

The chromosome number is 2n = 28

The flowering period extends from spring (April) to summer (August).

Occurrence

Ranunculus uncinatus occurs in western North America. The area erstreckst from the Aleutian Islands along the coast from Alaska to California to the south. From about the middle of British Columbia, the area extends further inland to the east. The species is still found in Alberta, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. A disjoint occurrence is in northwestern Arizona.

The species grows in moist forests and grassland at altitudes 0-3400 meters. It is often found along streams.

Ranunculus uncinatus was first described in 1831 by David Don.

Use

Indian tribes used Ranunculus uncinatus to various medical purposes, for example as a remedy for rheumatism.
