Raoul Coutard

Raoul Coutard ( born September 16, 1924 in Paris ) is a French cinematographer and photographer.

Career

The Frenchman worked as a cameraman for the famous directors Jean -Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Jacques Demy Jacques Rivette and. Through his work, the films of the Nouvelle Vague were decisively shaped. He first tried in 1969 as a director and turned the Vietnam drama Hoa Binh. At the International Film Festival of Cannes 1970, he was awarded the prize for best directorial debut. In 1978 he was awarded the César for Best Cinematography. At the International Film Festival of Cannes 1982 received for his camera work of Jean- Luc Godard's film Passion of the Grand prix technique. In 1997, he was honored by the American Society of Cinematographers with the International Achievement Award.
