Raoul Giraudo

Raoul Giraudo ( born May 19, 1932 in Aix -en- Provence ) is a retired French footballer.

The club career

The Raoul used predominantly as a left defender during his career Giraudo since 1950 has played at Stade de Reims, but the first years was used exclusively in their amateur team. Originating he was, like his teammates Francis Méano Reims, from the youth of the AS Aix in Provence. 1950 belonged Giraudo on the French A- Youth - selection, finished second at the Junior European Championships.

His first game in Division 1, he played the end of November 1954 in the 3-0 against Girondins Bordeaux; but when the left-back -budgetary Siatka again was available 14 days later, Giraudo moved back into second place. After all, he was for coach Albert Batteux to a fixed size, put it this way in the 1954/55 season still on 13 missions in the pros and was allowed to rejoice at the end about winning the national champion title. And the year after it was Siatka, which in defense formation only the " Joker role " was coming. Giraudo, however, was used in most league games and was especially in all matches in the inaugural European Cup of champions there - including the dramatic final on 13 June 1956 at the Parc des Princes, as the Red -Whites despite 2-0 - and 3: 2 leadership had to admit defeat in the end Real Madrid 3:4.

In the following season, there was still again the interplay of the two spaces between defenders Giraudo, Siatka, Zimny and the young Raoul Scholl hammer; which was a godsend for the coach, Giraudo might not have particularly fallen in only 12 league operations. But in 1957/58 he had then a regular place and was one of the first team that even the Doublé managed, so the gain of the league and cup in the same season. The left-back was also the cup final on the grass and is one of the very small number of players in France, where such a double title was granted, because from 1933 to today (2012 ) succeeded in doing so only eleven clubs in the top division in France.

The season 1958/59 was for Raoul Giraudo in many ways like the 1955/56 season: Stade Reims played in the league with the top without being able to defend the title, retired in the Coupe de France prematurely, but got it in the European Cup turn to the final - where Giraudo but had to make do with the silver medal again, because once again Real Madrid was superior to the Rémois (this time 2-0 in the Neckar Stadium ). 1959/60 Giraudos was last year in the Champagne Bruno Rodzik and Jean Wendling were as defenders a bank and the two-time European Cup finalists only stood in seven league matches on the lawn. He could at least celebrate his third national championship, but as early as 1955 again only as a reservist. Then he was still a season at FC Grenoble (26 point games, 3 goals ), and - with only eight Erstligaeinsätzen - FC Sochaux active.
