Raphael Maklouf

Raphael Maklouf ( born December 10, 1937 in Jerusalem ) is a British sculptor.

Life

Maklouf came after the Second World War to Great Britain. At age 13, during a hospital stay, he began to form sculptures. From 1954 to 1958 he studied at Camberwell College of Arts in London. In the following decades he taught sculpture at various British universities. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. Since 1977 he is member of the Royal Society of Arts.

Works

Makloufs most common plants are two reliefs Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on British coins - one for the coin, the other for commemorative coins. Both received on August 8, 1984, the royal approbation. The coin with Makloufs profile picture of Elizabeth II were minted from 1985 to 1997.

For the Cathedral of Brentwood Maklouf created in the 1990s round reliefs to the Stations of the Cross.
