Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata ( Hindi / Marathi: रतन टाटा Ratan Tata, born December 28, 1937 in Bombay ) is an Indian manager and company, including Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Tata group.

He is not with Ratan Tata (1871-1918) to be confused, one of the two sons of the founder of the Tata Group, Jamsetji Tata and Sir Ratan founder of the Trust ( and formally his grandfather ).

Life

Tata was born in Mumbai, the son of Naval Tata Hormusji (1904-1989) from the Parsi industrialist family Tata. As was his father, a leading manager of the Tata Group, from the widow of Ratan Tata, Tata Lady Navabaj, adopted, Ratan Tata is in some ways the great-grandson of company founder. Since his parents divorced early, he also grew up in Navabaj Tata.

After his education at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai Tata studied architecture and civil engineering at Cornell University in 1962 and reached his graduation. He also received in 1975 a degree in management from Harvard Business School.

After graduating, he returned to India and started in the company of his family. In 1991, Tata of his uncle JRD Tata Group conglomerate, the Tata Group. In the following years, Tata built the group from continuously and restructured the company. In the international media Tata was at least acquainted with the acquisition of European steel group Corus.

On 28 December 2012 his 75th birthday, Ratan Tata has made the company's management of the Tata Group Cyrus Mistry to the billionaire son. For the first time, a man was entrusted, is not from the immediate family of the founder.

Ratan Tata lives childless as a bachelor in Mumbai. He is regarded as a gentleman with impeccable manners and the highest ethical standards and leads a modest lifestyle for his circumstances.

Awards and prizes

From the Government of India Tata received on 26 January 2000 Padma Bhushan the. The London School of Economics awarded him an honorary doctorate and the Fortune magazine selected him in November 2007 to the 25 most influential businessmen in the world. In 2008 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. In 2010 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Cambridge.
