Rateče

Rateče [ ratɛtʃɛ ] ( German: Ratschach ) is a place in Slovenia, on the border with Italy and Austria, located 870 m above sea level and counts 648 inhabitants. It is part of the municipality of Kranjska Gora and is located in Savetal, between the rugged mountain range located in the south of the Julian Alps and the gentler Karawanken in the north.

Probably originated in Rateče in the second half of the 14th century, the manuscript of Rateče ( held in Klagenfurt), a collection of formulas of prayer in Slovenian. The local dialect is the only one in the Krain, Carinthian the assigned (see: Slovenian dialects ). The population lives mainly from tourism. By the end of the Habsburg Empire the town belonged to the crown land of Carniola, where Rateče formed a separate parish in the judicial district Kronau ( political district Radmannsdorf ).

Churches

In the eastern part of the town is the parish church of the Holy Spirit with late Gothic presbytery ( original chapel of 1520) and further west the Cemetery Church of Saint Thomas with a bell tower from the 14th century and a bell from 1521. Interior there is a Way of the Cross (L. Layer ) and the remnants of Gothic wall painting (Master of Zirivnica ).

Winter sports

In the district of Planica ( German Ratschach mats ) is the Letalnica Bratov Gorišek, a ski flying hill, were placed on the numerous world records.
