Ratko Rudić

Ratko Rudić ( born June 7, 1948 in Belgrade ) is a Croatian water polo coach and a former water polo player. He has been able to win as coach 24 medals at major events and is the most successful coach in the history of water polo at all.

Playing career

Originally his family from the small town of Dicmo about 20 kilometers north of Split, Sinj direction. Ratko Rudić played for clubs Jedinstvo Zadar, Jadran Split and Partizan Belgrade.

As a player he played for the Yugoslav national water polo team. Prior to the 1968 Olympics he was injured but before the tournament and was able to not win the gold medal with his team. At the World Championships in 1975, he was falsely accused of doping, and so the entire Yugoslav team was disqualified. It was not until a subsequent investigation, it was proved that Rudić has not taken any banned substances, and he was rehabilitated. Finally, for the Olympic Games in 1980 he won the silver medal.

Coaching career

As a coach, he was responsible for a total of four different nations: Croatia (2004-2012), United States (2000-2004), Italy (1990-2000), Yugoslavia (1984-1988) and the Yugoslav junior national team (1983-1984), with three of these teams he could win the World Cup, according to him winning the world Cup with Croatia was a fantastic win for him. Likewise Rudić worked as a club coach. So he trained from (1981-1983) the juniors of VK Partizan Belgrade, and in 1989, the first team of VK Partizan Belgrade. Due to his outstanding performance as water polo coach Ratko Rudić was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Swimming Sports on May 12, 2007.
