Geography

Rats is about 25 km north of the district capital Weiz between Pretulalpe and Joglland in the upper Feistritztal. The municipality has an area of ​​28.72 km ² and lies at an altitude of 765 m.

History

The place is mentioned in 1340 as in the Roeten. The abolition of the manorial system was carried out in 1848., The local church as an autonomous body was established in 1850. Starting in 1922, there were brown coal mining at the site. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. 1960 was the last tunnel, the closed " peace tunnel ". The former mining village is a holiday and recreation today.
