Raul M. Gonzalez

Raul Gonzalez Maravilla ( born December 3, 1930 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental Province, Philippines ) is a Filipino politician.

Biography

His father Delfin Gonzalez was temporarily Mayor ( Mayor ) of Jaro, at an urban district of the newly created city of Iloilo City in 1937.

After visiting the Jaro Elementary School, as well as the Panay College he studied 1947-1951 Political Science at the Colegio de San Agustin, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts ( AB) in Political Science. Then he absvolierte postgraduate studies in law at the University of Santo Tomas and finished this in 1955 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ).

Subsequently, he worked as a lawyer before joining in 1960 as a legal assistant in the governor of the province of Iloilo office in the government service. In 1961 he was legal assistant in the Mayor's Office of Manila and then from 1963 to 1969 employees of the censor board for cinema ( Board of Censors for Motion Pictures). Subsequently, he was from 1970 until the declaration of martial law by President Ferdinand Marcos and the consequent dissolution of the House of Representatives in 1972, legal adviser to the Education Committee of the Parliament.

He then took a position as a Lecturer at Assumption College and College of the Holy Spirit of the Philippine Normal University. Later he was appointed professor of commercial law at the University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University. In addition, he was also returned to the bar and, as such, between 1979 and 1981 President of the Bar Association (Integrated Bar of the Philippines ).

After the fall of the Marcos government, he was from 1986 to 1988 Ombudsman ( Tanodbayan ) during the term of President Corazon Aquino.

He then resumed his activities as a lawyer and university professor. During this time he was also in other occupational and socio-political organizations are active and, among others, Vice President of the Foundation of the former law students at the University of Santo Tomas ( University of Sto. Tomas Law Alumni Foundation Inc. ), president of a landowners association (Valle Verde 6 Home Owners Association ), auditors of the Guild of Catholic Lawyers ( Catholic Lawyers Guild of the Philippines ), President of Manila Mahamilad Lions Club, chairman of the Philippine Committee of Lawyers for human Rights ( Lawyers Committee on Human rights - New York), President of the Asian Bar Association ( All Asia bar Association), Governor of the society of Legal aid ( Citizens legal Aid society of the Philippines), President of the National bar Association ( National bar Association of the Philippines ) and several other management positions in the Integrated bar of the Philippines.

Between 1995 and 2004, was Gonzalez for three consecutive legislatures, Member of the House of Representatives ( Kapulungán ng mga ng Pilipinas Kinatawán or Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ) and represented in this the single constituency ( Lone District), the province of Iloilo.

On 18 August 2004, he was appointed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to the Minister of Justice ( Secretary of Justice) in the Cabinet. In a cabinet reshuffle, he was then in 2009 Chief of Staff of the President ( Presidential Chief of Staff ), and thus one of the President 's closest collaborators.
