Rauvolfia sandwicensis

Rauwolfia ( Rauvolfia, Syn: .. .. Cyrtosiphonia Miq, Dissolena Lour, Heurckia waste Arg, Ophioxylon L., Podochrosia Baill, Rauwolfia L., orth var ), also called devil pepper or snake root, is a plant genus in the family of the dogbane family ( Apocynaceae ). The generic name honors Rauvolfia the Augsburg physician and botanist Leonhard Rauwolf ( 1540-1596 ).

Description

They are evergreen shrubs or trees. The plants contain latex. The stalked leaves are shiny and are usually in whorls on the branches.

The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are usually fünfzählig. The fused sepals are deeply divided. The fused petals are white, yellow, green or pink, sometimes the corolla tube is red. The corolla lobes overlapping to the left. There is only one stamen circle exists; the stamens are very short. The ovary is upper constant. Are formed drupes containing a seed.
