Rawaki Island

Rawaki (English Rawaki Iceland, formerly Phoenix Island ) is the easternmost and with 1.2 × 0.8 km and the second smallest coral island within the group of Kiribati Phoenix Islands. It is located in the central Pacific Ocean, about 410 km south of the equator and 90 km east of Birnie.

Rawaki was discovered on 23 February 1824 by John Palmer, the captain of the British whaling ship Phoenix from London. It is an uninhabited atoll upscale with the highly saline remnant of a small lagoon, which is completely separated from the sea.
