Ray Birdwhistell
Raymond L. Birdwhistell ( * 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † 19 October 1994) was an American anthropologist, ethnologist and linguist.
Ray Birdwhistell studied at Miami University in Oxford (BA, 1940), the Ohio State University (MA, 1941) and the University of Chicago ( Ph.D., 1951). He was an important representative of cultural relativism, which assumes that emotional expressions are culturally determined. Birdwhistell was a student of Margaret Mead.
