Ray Hnatyshyn

Ray Hnatyshyn, PC, CC ( original name Ramon John Hnatyshyn; born March 16, 1934 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; † 18 December 2002) was a Canadian politician from 1990 to 1995, the 24th Governor General of Canada.

Career

Hnatyshyn, was born on March 16, 1934 in Saskatoon, the son of John Hnatyshyn, a Canadian senator and descendants of Ukrainian immigrants. He first visited the Victoria Public School and then the Nutana Collegiate Institute; after high school graduation, he eventually graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, where he graduated in 1954 and 1956 and as the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws acquired.

Hnatyshyn married on February 9, 1960 Karen Gerda Nygaard Andreasen, with whom he had two sons.

1974 Hnatyshyn then stepped on to the general election in 1974 for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and got a seat in the House for Saskatoon - Biggar. On June 4, 1979, he became a member of the Privy Council.

On 14 December 1989, it was announced that Elizabeth II has received the recommendation to appoint Hnatyshyn the new Governor-General. On January 29, 1990, he was officially sworn.

Title

Hnatyshyn wore during his political career different titles. As of June 4, 1979 with the inclusion in the Privy Council, he was called The Honourable Ramon Hnatyshyn (Eng. about Venerable ). By swearing to the Governor-General in January 1990 First Comrade of the Order of Canada, the highest Canadian award for civilians, as well as commander of Canada. Thus, he was given the title His Excellency The Right Honourable. From the time of dismissal as commander in chief until his death, he was wearing only the name suffix The Right Hon.
