Ray Hyman

Ray Hyman ( born June 23, 1928 in Chelsea ( Massachusetts)) is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Life

At a young age while studying at Boston University Ray Hyman worked part-time as a magician and palmist. He earned in 1953 at the Johns Hopkins University a doctoral degree in psychology and taught for several years at Harvard University. Next he became an expert in statistics. After three years in the private sector In 1961 he was professor in Eugene. Together with other known skeptics such as Martin Gardner and Paul Kurtz, he founded in 1976 at the State University at Buffalo, the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal ( CSICOP ), which publishes the magazine Skeptical Inquirer.
