Action and environment

Students TJ, Vince, Spinelli, Gretchen, Mikey and Gus experience the great break in her own way, although it always comes back to dispute between the classmates and the teachers, but they manage these situations always. Your " mortal enemies " are the strict teacher Miss Finster, her "right hand" Randall " The Sneak " Weems, Erwin Lawson, whose friends ( the school hoodlums ) and the imaginary, spiteful and bitchy Ashley.

In most episodes, it 's about a problem that could have in school and normal students.

Handlungsort

The children attend the " Third Street " Primary School ( named after the local entrepreneur Thaddeus T. Third III). It was built, as in the cartoon " Disney's Recess - The Secret Mission " is clear, even before the 1970s. Obviously, a typical average elementary school in the USA ( in the original: Elementary School ) to be displayed in a typical Durchschnittsort with stereotypical residents.

Most of the time playing the series in the schoolyard, while the big break. Often the main characters in the classroom, the cafeteria or in the nearby kiosk Kelso can be seen and on the way home.

Location

Various episodes give different, sometimes contradictory evidence, where the school is. For example, in the episode " Spinelli's work of art " ( Spinelli 's Masterpiece ), zoom the Pale tabs on their PC to the area Arkansas / South Dakota. And in another episode mentioned Ms. Finster the Arkansas Standard Achievement Test. In other episodes Alabama, Illinois and Pennsylvania are mentioned.

The city plays in the Big break, obviously has a high proportion of German Americans. There is a neighborhood called " Little Bavaria ", the characters speak in the American version sometimes German ( "Yes, my commander. " ) And many of the main characters bear German names, eg Gustav Griswald, T. J. Detweiler, Gretchen Grundler, M. P. Finster, Ashley Armbruster and Michael Blumberg.

Time

The main characters go in 1997-1998 to the school. In the episode " The Lost Ball" ( The Lost Ball) is the high school graduation of TJ and his friends to see. On a banner stands "Class of 2006" ( German: School class of 2006). This proves the eight years of schooling between the fourth and twelfth grade. In addition, Gus says in " first name Ashley " "Hey, we live in the 90's ". The series was also aired for the first time in the U.S. in 1997.

On the other hand, the artistic style of the cartoon gives the image of an earlier time, through fashion and appearance of the characters. The characters never seem to wear fancy clothes and most of the girls wear long dresses, even if that may possibly be explained by the generally exaggerated appearance of clichés and stereotypes.

As usual with animated series, after a drastic event for the situation apparently is becoming the status quo of the series back, but aging of the protagonists and they remember past events.

The time of the big break

The actual date of the always -anticipated big break is never really clarified. In the first episode the Klassenuhr is adjusted so that the teacher Miss Grotke mentioned that the break always starts at ten clock. The great clock but mostly displays different times when the children are sent into the break. T. J. noticed in an episode of " We only get 40 precious minutes of Recess a day. " ( German: " Every day we get only 40 precious minutes long break. " )

The schoolyard

The schoolyard has an organized system of government, a witty mockery of social hierarchy on U.S. schoolyards. Students are governed by a sixth grader, which is appointed by the King on the last day of the previous year. Individual students and groups are allowed separate areas for themselves, to take their clubhouses or forts in fitting.
