Recital

A recital, also written recital, is a particular form of presentation of the music. This term refers to a concert that

  • Is presented by a single soloist or
  • Consists of the works of a single composer.

Even at a concert a soloist who is accompanied by a piano, one speaks of a recital. For example, a piano recital is presented by a pianist, a violin or flute recital by violinist or a flutist, possibly with piano accompaniment. Even with vocal performances with or without piano accompaniment, the term vocal recital is used, although other terms are used according to the content of the performance, such as recital.

The word derives from the English or the French recite reciter, which in turn go back to the Latin recitare ( recite ).
