History

In 1958, the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division Major General William Westmoreland recognized a lack of proficiency in the squad as well as squads and patrol leaders during exercise White Cloud. General Westmoreland was a veteran of the Normandy invasion and realized the importance of the role of leaders of small combat units, which often acted independently and separately from their companies to take the initiative against superior enemy forces.

Then sent the U.S. Army many of their officers and noncommissioned officers on an eight-week training course at the Ranger School, but could not be sent to the course each Squad Leader and Ranger school graduates have been appointed to its own trains or team members in the tactics of the U.S. Army Rangers train. When General Westmoreland 's recommendation was that some soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who had already graduated from Ranger School successfully establish a training school for the entire division, there to train the tactics of Ranger, recommended Westmoreland Major Lewis L. Millett as commander of the school.

Since then, the school was dedicated on educating smaller combat troops in the tactics of the Enlightenment, the Recondo badge was developed, which has a downward-pointing arrow had, who was to perform attacks from the sky (similar to the American Indians ) and the hunting and tracking skills highlights. In addition, the badge was black and white based on the ability to operate at night and day. In use, however, the badge was black and olive color.

Later also a big " V " in the word " Recondo " was applied. This served to distinguish them from soldiers who were trained in the U.S. and those who were later trained in Vietnam. The Recondo patch was worn by each graduate on the chest pocket. To avoid confusion, the graduates of the " Recondo School " rather " Recondo " and not as usual "Ranger" were called, even though the training took place at the Ranger School and are also called " Ranger" graduates of the Ranger School.
