In 1872, the strategic importance of the place was recognized ( militarily and economically ) because of its near the border of Brazil and Paraguay, as well as because of the raw materials (mainly wood) and grazing grounds by the then minister of war. So was sent out in the same year for the development of the Northeast of Argentina from Buenos Aires General Manuel Obligado. In the same year he retook the place and founded a military base. This event ( Reconquista: Spanish for reconquest ) gave the city its name, was founded next to it. The first inhabitants of the city were then the soldiers and their families who have been here used for defense and conquest of the Northeast and transferred a piece of land in lieu of pay received. With them also traders came. In addition to military installations " house made of mud and straw for the executives and officials " were built. General Obligado was commissioned by the provincial government with the distribution of land that had been conquered by the locals. The granted to the soldiers lost this country then in games and by intoxication mainly to the well -drawn added distributors to pay their bills. So later, entire neighborhoods were built on the land of a few merchants, their families this usually until today still possess. This also meant that Reconquista soon had a highly heterogeneous population that consisted of descendants of Spaniards, mestizos, Indians and immigrants from other European countries.

For one, the Barrio " La Cortada " and from the other the Barrio " Virgen de Guadalupe " was. The latter is located about five kilometers from the center Reconquistas in the southwest. These families and individuals connected with the city of Reconquista from a contract of sale, the plots of 10 × gave them 14.30 meters. These should be in the back of a provisional arrangement a traditional " rancho ", a mud hut be built. In a further step, a stable stone house should be built in the front of the parcel. Overall, the Barrio " Virgen de Guadalupe " from 16 city blocks composed à 28 building plots.
