Reculfoz

Reculfoz is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Reculfoz situated on 1016 m above sea level, about 27 km southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the valley of the Combes Dernières south of the chain of Haute Joux.

The area of ​​2.54 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area is from the valley floor of the Combes Dernières (1010 m above sea level. M. ) ingested, forming a syncline of the Jura Mountains in structural geological terms. At the lowest point below the village, the valley is indeed vermoort, but has shown no surface watercourses because rainwater seeps into the karst underground. This valley is flanked to the south of the crests of the Bois de Ban ( to 1080 m). In the north, the municipality's area extends to the densely wooded broad crest of the Haute Joux in the top of the Saint- Sorlin. Here the highest elevation of Reculfoz is achieved with 1212 m.

Neighboring communities of Reculfoz are Cerniébaud in the north, Les Pontets and Mouthe in the east, Petite- Chaux in the south and Le Crouzet in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Reculfoz belonged to the rule Mouthe. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Reculfoz is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Hauts du Doubs.

Attractions

The village has a church, but a stone cross, erected in 1741.

Population

With 51 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Reculfoz is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 59 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Reculfoz was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Chaux- Neuve to Remoray - Boujeons.
