Red carpet

A red carpet is usually a long rolled out carpet on which important or prominent people ( celebrities, heads of state, etc. ) go. Red carpets are often rolled out for special occasions and receptions at the entrance, on stairs, but also at the airport. They should bring the importance of the people who go on to express.

A scene in the Agamemnon of Aeschylus contains an early mention of a red carpet: Clytemnestra leaves her husband Agamemnon on his return from Troy, a purple carpet spread out, his feet are not touching the ground. But Agamemnon refuses at first to enter the carpet, and points out that a red carpet would be entitled to the gods. By stating that Priam would not have hesitated to enter the carpet, Agamemnon can finally be convinced. Before entering the carpet he can be taken off the shoes to not have any more to infuriate the gods.

The longest ever rolled out, red carpet took place on November 3, 2013 in Gera in the context of the 15th anniversary of Gera arcades. He had a length of 5354.61 m, and is thus a world record.
