Rotkopfweber ( Quelea erythrops )

The Rotkopfweber ( Quelea erythrops ) is an African species of the family of the weaver birds. He is occasionally kept as an ornamental bird in Europe.

Description

The Rotkopfweber reaches a body length of twelve inches. The male has a bright red head in breeding plumage. Deducted from this is the light gray beak with a light gray beak basis. In the rest of this red dress is missing then the male resembles the female, which is a brown and blackish longitudinal striped plumage similar to most sparrows.

The clutch consists of two eggs. The incubation period is 14 days, the nestling period of 21 days. They are supplied another two weeks of the parents birds.

The distribution area of Rotkopfwebers extends from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Natal and west to Angola. The habitat is moist savannas and grasslands.
