Red Savina pepper

The Red Savina is a cultivar of the species Capsicum chinense and thus belongs to the genus capsicum (Capsicum ).

The variety was developed by the resident in Walnut, Southern California GNS Spices under the direction of Frank Garcia and is protected under the U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act (PVP # 9200255 ).

By 2006, Red Savina held with 577,000 Scoville units measured the record for the hottest chili places in the world and was thus also in the Guinness Book of World Records. Thus the fruits of the plant contain almost 4% capsaicin. Usual Habanero varieties bring it to around 100,000-300,000 Scoville units, which already corresponds to 65 times the sharpness of a jalapeno. Was surpassed Red Savina of some Capsicum chinense varieties from India. New record holder Trinidad Moruga Scorpion with over 2,000,000 Scoville units.

In a test in which the value for the sharpest hot peppers in the world was discovered, only a value of 248 556 SHU was measured for the Red Savina. Thus, it was still below the value of the habanero and well below the specified in the Guinness Book of World Records value.
