Red Tambov cattle

The Tambov Red Cattle ( Russian: Kpacнaя тaмбoвcкaя, Krasnaya tambowskaja ) is a breed of cattle from Russia.

Breeding history

Middle of the 19th century was the Tambov Tambov Oblast Rotvieh in by crossing the local Tambov Landrace with Tyrolean Grey cattle. Even South Devon cattle and Simmental cattle were bred. Following the recommendations of Prof. MM Pridorogins the intersection products were only crossed together from 1911. From 1924, the scheduled breeding began, especially in the breeding station Kirsanof. 1948, the breed was officially recognized.

Characteristics

  • Color red in various shades, rarely white spots on belly, udder, chest and legs
  • Strong constitution, compact body
  • Head short
  • Body deep and wide
  • Milk yield 2340 kg with 3.6 % fat
  • Good meat and fattening qualities
  • Disease resistance
  • Good adaptation to the local climate

The main breeding area of Tambov Rotviehs is Rajon Kirsanof in the Tambov Oblast, where the population is 9,500 animals. In 1980, the total number of 45,000.
